DAVID EVANS FROM EASTWOOD FLEEING JUSTICE AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE AND SCOTLAND

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, David Evans, a man with a troubling history of sexual offenses, attempted to evade justice after committing heinous acts against a young girl. The incident, which took place in Nottinghamshire, involved Evans allegedly providing alcohol to a 12-year-old girl before subjecting her to a sexual assault. The court heard that Evans, who had previously been convicted of similar crimes, fled the country to Scotland in an apparent attempt to avoid facing the consequences of his actions.

According to court records, Evans left a note for his landlord in Eastwood, explaining that he would be away, approximately two months prior to his scheduled court appearance in May of the previous year. This premeditated departure was part of his effort to evade prosecution. Prosecutor Mark Knowles detailed the severity of the assault, stating that Evans stripped the young girl naked and inflicted harm upon her during the attack. When questioned by authorities, Evans denied any wrongdoing, claiming that both the girl and her father had fabricated the story.

The victim, now an adult, provided a heartbreaking statement during the trial. She revealed that she finds it extremely difficult to leave her home alone and is plagued by distressing dreams in which Evans appears to intrude through her window at night. The trauma has led her to suffer from flashbacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression. Her mental health struggles have been so severe that she has engaged in self-harm and has attempted to take her own life, highlighting the profound and lasting impact of Evans’s actions.

Further investigations uncovered that Evans possessed child sexual abuse images on his computer, which police found following his arrest. This evidence added to the mounting case against him. It was also revealed that Evans had a prior conviction dating back to June 2005, when he was sentenced to 42 months in prison, with an additional three-year extension, for sex offenses involving two girls under the age of 13. His previous crimes included sexual assault, failure to comply with notification requirements, and possession of indecent images.

During sentencing, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC condemned Evans’s actions, emphasizing that his victim’s suffering was prolonged and unnecessarily cruel due to Evans’s denial and his attempt to flee. The judge stated, “Your predilection for young girls never went away and that is why you committed these offences. It is said you feel terribly sorry for the girl, but you suggested she was a serial liar and had been put up to lie. Whatever your protestations and self-delusions, I don't have the faintest doubt you are a continuing danger to young children. Whatever miseries you have heaped upon yourself, you have damaged that girl for life.”

Evans, who appeared via video link from HMP Nottingham with his head bowed, was sentenced to nine years in prison. Additionally, he will serve an extended license period of four years, ensuring close supervision upon his release. The case underscores the ongoing threat posed by individuals with a history of such offenses and highlights the importance of vigilance and justice for victims of sexual abuse.
