ABERDEEN MAN SENTENCED FOR COLD-BLOODED MURDER OF SCOTRAIL WORKER
David Bain, a 28-year-old man, was convicted of a brutal and callous murder that took place in Aberdeen. The incident occurred after Bain arranged to meet Clifford Anderson, a railway employee, through a dating website.
Following a consensual sexual encounter, Bain stabbed Anderson once through the heart, leading to his death.
The judge, Lord Boyd of Duncansby, sentenced Bain to life imprisonment with a minimum of 16 years before being eligible for parole.
The court heard Bain's account claiming he took knives intending self-harm and that Anderson approached him from behind, prompting a stabbing motion.
Bain’s actions were described as "brutal and callous," reflecting a level of coldness and cruelty.
Evidence indicated Bain was intoxicated with alcohol, cocaine, and diazepam at the time of the offense.
After the attack, Bain was seen shouting in the street and later told police, “I just f***ing stuck it in him.” Blood tests confirmed the presence of substances including alcohol and drugs.
Bain denied murder initially but was convicted last month, with the murder carrying a mandatory life sentence.
Bain also expressed remorse, acknowledging he harbored no ill will towards Anderson and struggled with mental health issues and substance addiction.
His defense highlighted his past criminal record, which was not extensive, and his remorse for causing the death of a man he claimed to have no animosity against.
