*FINSTOWN MAN ADMITS POSSESSING OVER 40,000 ILLEGAL CHILD IMAGES*
A 38-year-old resident of Finstown appeared at Kirkwall Sheriff Court last Wednesday and was registered as a sex offender.He, David Alan Hourston, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing illegal images and videos of children at his residence in the Kirkwall area.
These offences spanned from 2010 to 2018.
Prosecutor Sue Foard explained that police acted on received information, carried out a search of the premises, and collected various items for forensic analysis.
The court was informed that more than 40,000 inappropriate images of children were recovered, along with over 400 videos totaling more than three days of playback time.
Sheriff Andrew Berry postponed sentencing by four weeks to enable the preparation of social work reports.
Hourston was granted bail and will remain on the sex offenders register temporarily.
The next court date is scheduled for November 1st.
