CHESTER COURT ORDERS PSYCHIATRIC REPORT INTO SEX OFFENDER
A CHESTER man will need a psychiatric report into his mental state after admitting breaching his sexual harm prevention order (SHPO).
Darren Harris, 46, from Tattenhall, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court alongside two support workers on Tuesday, September 9 to admit the breach.
He was accused of possessing an internet enabled device when police arrived to check as part of his sexual offending management.
Officers attended his property on August 18 and discovered he had the device since August 12, despite having to register it with police within three days.
Prosecutor Elisha Bethell added that he acquired the device on the same day he had been given a warning over remembering to register any new devices.
She added that he was given the five-year SHPO in 2021.
Katie Barlow, defending him, said that her client had learning needs and could struggle to understand the language of his order.
She said: “I have some concern over his ability to understand his SHPO.
“He has had it explained to him, but it contains difficult language.
“I seek an adjournment for a psychiatrist report to help establish where it sits on the guidelines.” This adjournment was not opposed by Miss Bethell and Harris will return in 10 weeks on November 18.
A pre-sentence report was also ordered.
