DANNY WARING'S HORRIFIC CRUELTY AT PENTON FARM LEADS TO SUSPENDED PRISON SENTENCE

Daniel William Waring, born in January 1970 and residing at Haithwaite Farm in Penton, Carlisle, became the focus of a disturbing animal welfare investigation after it was revealed that he had allowed hundreds of sheep to suffer and die due to neglect and starvation.

Over the course of a single year, more than 640 sheep on Waring’s property succumbed to these conditions, highlighting a severe failure in animal care and management.

Waring, who was the director of the now-dissolved company D W Waring Limited, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to animal cruelty and breaches of disease control regulations.

The case drew significant attention from local authorities and animal welfare organizations, emphasizing the seriousness of the offenses committed on his farm in Penton, a rural area known for its farming community.

The investigation into Waring’s practices was described as lengthy and complex by officials.

Councillor Celia Tibble, who is responsible for Trading Standards, publicly stated, “This was a long and complex investigation which has been brought to a satisfactory conclusion.

We support the farming community but where poor practice and unnecessary suffering are discovered we will intervene and take action.” She further condemned the conditions in which the animals were kept, asserting, “These animals were kept in terrible conditions, animal cruelty will not be tolerated.” She underscored the importance of laws designed to control disease, protect animals, and safeguard the broader food chain, emphasizing that such regulations are in place for vital reasons.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglect and cruelty in animal husbandry.

Waring was sentenced to a total of 121 days in prison, though this sentence was suspended for twelve months.

Additionally, he was ordered to complete 110 days of unpaid work and was required to pay costs amounting to £17,783.

As part of the penalties, Waring received a seven-year ban on keeping any animals, a restriction that will remain in effect until August 2025.

The case has sparked ongoing discussions about animal welfare standards and enforcement in rural communities like Penton, where farming is a significant part of local life.
