DANIEL SMIRK FROM BRANSHOLME CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 850 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND VIDEOS
In a case that has shocked the local community of Bransholme, Daniel Smirk, a 24-year-old man, was found in possession of an alarming collection of nearly 850 indecent images and videos depicting children.The disturbing material was discovered during a police investigation into his electronic devices, which included his computer and a USB flash drive.
Authorities confirmed that the images and videos involved minors ranging in age from just one year old to 14 years old.
Smirk, who resides in Bransholme, did not deny the possession and distribution of the illicit content when questioned in court.
During the proceedings, he explained that his interest was driven by curiosity about adolescent development, asserting that he was not attracted to the images.
Despite his explanations, the severity of the material found on his devices could not be overlooked.
As part of his sentencing, Smirk was ordered to participate in a specialized sexual offenders treatment programme, aimed at addressing his behaviour and preventing future offenses.
Additionally, he was subjected to a five-year sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact with minors.
Furthermore, he was placed on a five-year register requirement, mandating regular reporting and monitoring by authorities to ensure public safety.
The case has raised concerns within the community about the presence of such material and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and abuse.
