MAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS ATTACKS ON WOMEN

At 26 years old, Daniel Roberts claimed that his violent conduct was linked to steroid use, crack cocaine, cocaine, and alcohol.

Nonetheless, court records showed that he had prior convictions, including an assault on another woman in 2016.

The case at Shrewsbury Crown Court detailed his recent violent episodes involving two girlfriends last year, which followed minor disagreements.

Prosecutor Mr Robert Edwards outlined that on May 2, Roberts threatened a woman at her home in Shrewsbury with a lock knife, injuring her leg.

The woman also told police she had been strangled into unconsciousness.

Roberts reportedly also put her in a headlock, dragged her to the floor, spat on her, and twice punched her in the face, resulting in black eyes.

After hospital treatment, he made a chilling comment about the severity of his assault, saying, "I only gave you seven out of 10.

I could have done more damage." The incident attracted attention when Roberts threw a glass at a pub in Shrewsbury on May 10, striking another patron.

He was ejected by staff and police were called.

In September, evidence revealed that Roberts and another woman were staying in Wellington.

On two occasions, following disputes, he deliberately tripped her, causing her to fall.

He then physically assaulted her during a sustained attack, later apologising.

On a subsequent occasion, he struck her on the head, took her door key, and used it to cut her neck, causing bleeding.

Their relationship ended shortly afterwards when she was distressed at her workplace.

Roberts initially denied all allegations but later pleaded guilty to charges of wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and affray prior to the trial.

His solicitor, Mr Kevin Jones, stated Roberts wished to apologize and highlighted that he had served 435 days in custody since his last arrest, working on his issues with drugs and anger.

Judge Lowe described the crimes as having a "sadistic element" and expressed concerns about a significant risk of future offenses, especially within intimate relationships.

He decided an extended sentence was necessary to safeguard the public.

The link between steroid use and loss of temper was also acknowledged, contributing to the violence.

Roberts was sentenced to eight years in prison, with the requirement to serve two-thirds before eligibility for release, plus a three-year license period.

A 15-year restraining order was issued, barring him from any contact with the women involved.

Five other charges will remain on file.
