MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
At Leeds Crown Court, Daniel Richardson (previously known as Bedford), aged 38 and residing on Leeds Road in Lofthouse, Wakefield, was convicted of sexually abusing a young girl.His crimes involved three separate incidents of penetration of a girl under 13 years old and remained hidden for 20 years.
The case was brought to light when Richardson, then 18, was tried and found guilty of the offenses.
His Honour Judge Batty described how the victim recounted feeling as though she wondered, 'Why me, why didn't anyone help me?' and shared that Richardson's actions nearly ended her life.
The court heard that the abuse caused her extensive emotional distress and health issues, including nightmares, trust issues, and struggles to bond with others.
Her statement revealed that 'a piece of me will always be broken and will never be fixed,' indicating her childhood was profoundly impacted.
Richardson had a criminal record from 2006 for theft, handling stolen goods, and driving offences, resulting in a community order.
Despite arguments that his difficult upbringing and history of abuse justified leniency, he was sentenced to six years and designated as a offender of particular concern.
He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
The judge described the 'brutal' nature of the victim's childhood and condemned Richardson for preying on her vulnerability for sexual acts.
Following his conviction, Detective Sergeant Emma Maltas highlighted the courage of the victim in reporting the crimes and reassured the public that victims should continue to seek justice, regardless of the elapsed time.
