DANIEL PEARSON OF MARSEKE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TEENAGER

In a case that has shocked the community of Marske, Daniel Pearson, a 38-year-old builder from Skelton Drive, was convicted of serious sexual offenses involving a teenage girl. The incidents occurred over five years ago, but only came to light after the victim, now an adult, reported the assaults, which had left her deeply traumatized.

According to the prosecution, Aisha Wadoodi, Pearson climbed into the girl’s bed on at least two separate occasions and engaged in indecent acts. The court heard that Pearson’s actions involved touching the girl inappropriately, specifically placing his hands inside her pyjama bottoms while she was trying to sleep. Despite Pearson’s denial of the allegations, the jury found him guilty of two charges of sexual assault on a child following a trial held late last year.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Stephen Ashurst addressed Pearson directly, emphasizing that although he had not committed any further offenses since the incidents, a custodial sentence was unavoidable given the gravity of his actions. The judge stated, “On two occasions you behaved indecently with her; you were sleeping behind her and tried to put your hands inside her pyjama bottoms.”

Judge Ashurst also expressed regret over the delay in resolving the case, noting that the complaints made in 2019 were only addressed in 2021. He highlighted the profound impact the assaults had on the victim, revealing that she struggled to talk about what happened for several years. The victim’s personal statement detailed her suffering, including psychological damage, attempts to cope through excessive drinking, and self-harming behaviors. Despite her efforts to block out the trauma, the effects persisted, affecting her education and overall well-being.

In light of his crimes, Pearson was sentenced to three years in prison. The judge also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and mandated that Pearson sign the sex offenders’ register until further notice. Addressing Pearson’s attitude, Judge Ashurst remarked, “You remain in denial and contested it in front of a jury. I accept that the conviction has had a significant impact on you and your relationship.” The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are treated and the lasting consequences for victims and offenders alike.
