FLINTSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR HEADBUTTING WIFE AND BLAMING HER
A man from Flintshire who assaulted his wife by headbutting her and then accused her of provoking the attack has been sentenced to prison.Daniel Olczyk, residing on Chester Road West in Shotton, appeared before Mold Crown Court for sentencing on June 5.
He had previously pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm to his wife, Monika Olczyk, who has since separated from him.
Prosecutor Amy Edwards outlined that the assault took place in January.
The defendant, who drank alcohol regularly, became aggressive after hearing noises downstairs.
When Mrs Olczyk went to investigate and told him to stop, he threw a glass that missed her.
She pleaded with him to cease, but he then headbutted her, causing significant pain.
The following morning, Olczyk blamed his wife, claiming she provoked him by speaking to him while he was intoxicated.
Mrs Olczyk was left with a bruise and a lump on her forehead, which she concealed at work for a week.
On the night of March 20, she returned home and saw a partially consumed bottle of whiskey.
As she entered, Olczyk questioned if she was waiting for a celebration, then launched into a rant about the Ukraine war and America.
His agitation increased, and when she tried to leave, he followed, kicked open a door, and called her a derogatory term.
When she attempted to escape, he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her.
She managed to flee and reported both the March incident and January’s assault to the police.
Olczyk was detained and questioned on March 23.
He admitted to being intoxicated but denied any wrongdoing.
Once again, he blamed his wife, accusing her of being aggressive and seeking attention.
In her victim impact statement, Mrs Olczyk described their relationship as 'toxic,' worsened over the past two years due to his alcohol abuse.
She asked the court for a rehabilitative order to help with his alcohol issues, emphasizing that she did not wish him harm despite the pain inflicted.
Despite pleading guilty, Olczyk failed to accept responsibility during probation interviews, instead blaming his wife and refusing to do unpaid work.
Judge Mills remarked that his denial left the court with no choice but to send him to prison for 36 weeks.
Additionally, Olczyk is subject to a five-year restraining order preventing any contact with Mrs Olczyk.
