MAN WHO ASSAULTED, HARASSED AND THREATENED PARTNER IS JAILED

A man convicted of assaulting, harassing, and threatening to kill his partner has been sentenced to prison.

Daniel Monks subjected the woman to ongoing abuse and continued his harassment even after a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) was imposed on him.

The order was issued on 4 February, but later that evening, Monks went to the woman's residence in Dronfield.

There, he assaulted her by kicking her foot and leg.

When she fell to the ground, he further kicked her in the stomach before leaving the address.

He kept contacting her through phone calls and abusive messages, then returned to her house, banging on the door and shouting more abuse.

The woman called the police, but Monks had already left.

He persisted in making harmful calls, including threats directed at her and her family, some of which police officers overheard.

He also repeatedly pressured her to retract her police statement.

Following his arrest, Monks faced charges.

The victim stated in her impact statement that she endured repeated emotional, psychological, and physical abuse.

She described living in constant fear, not only for herself but also for her family.

She detailed experiencing panic attacks, nightmares, shame, and guilt, and said she needed help to feel safe at home.

The woman expressed difficulty trusting others, feeling isolated and anxious, and being perpetually on edge.

She acknowledged that the abuse had severely affected her confidence, peace, and sense of security.

Despite the hardship, she is working to rebuild her life, regain independence, and restore her confidence and peace of mind.

Monks, aged 32 and residing on New Hall Road, Chesterfield, admitted to charges of assault, harassment, and perverting the course of justice when he appeared at Derby Crown Court on 21 July.

On 1 September, he was sentenced to 12 months in jail and received a five-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.

Detective Constable Christopher Millns, who led the investigation, commented: "Monks terrorised this woman for years, subjecting her to physical, emotional, and mental abuse.

Despite being given a DVPO, he continued his harassment, threatening her and her family and blatantly disregarding the law.

His violent and aggressive behaviour made her fear for her life and left her feeling unsafe in her own home.

The impact of his actions will be felt for a long time, but I hope that this sentence helps her begin to look toward a more positive and secure future."
