DUNTOCHER MAN DANIEL MAILEY SENT SEXUAL MESSAGES TO TEENAGE GIRLS AND IS BANNED FROM CONTACTING CHILDREN

In June 2021, Duntocher resident Daniel Mailey was convicted of engaging in inappropriate and illegal conduct involving minors. A Scottish court found that Mailey, of Russell Road in Duntocher, repeatedly sent sexual messages to two girls aged 15.

He admitted to sending messages of a sexual nature to one girl on December 9 and 10, 2017, and to the second girl between June 1 and July 1, 2018. Additionally, Mailey pleaded guilty to traveling to Cleddans Road on July 1, 2020, with the intent to meet the second 15-year-old girl for unlawful sexual activity.

A further charge involved an incident where Mailey caused a girl to fall into his vehicle. He drove the car at speed with her unsecured in the footwell, refused to stop when asked, and thereby put her at risk of injury, all with 'culpable and reckless' conduct and 'wicked disregard for the consequences.'

Mailey appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week, where his sentence was deferred for background reports. The Crown requested a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO), citing that the conduct originated on Snapchat, and that the conditions of the order would be appropriate given the nature of the offences.

Sheriff William Gallacher approved the SOPO, expressing ongoing concern about Mailey's behaviour by stating, "I remain concerned about your behaviour." The sheriff also imposed a community payback order with three years of supervised probation and mandated 225 hours of unpaid community work within 12 months, a reduction from the maximum 300 hours due to his guilty plea.

The SOPO prohibits Mailey from any contact or attempted contact with children under 16 until June 2026. Furthermore, he will remain on the sex offenders register for five years.
