ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR A DECADE OF BARBARIC SEXUAL VIOLENCE
A serial sex attacker, Daniel Esslemont, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for carrying out a decade of violent crimes against three women in Aberdeen. The assault spree, described as 'barbarity' by the judge, spanned from 2011 to 2021.
Esslemont was convicted after a trial held in Edinburgh, where he was found guilty of rape, physical assaults, and attempted murder.
During sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Michael O’Grady KC condemned Esslemont's actions, stating, 'You engaged in a course of conduct which was unremittingly cruel and abusive.' He added, 'Your behavior at times was little short of barbarity.' The judge emphasized that nothing could undo the damage caused but hoped to bring closure for the victims.
Esslemont, who will also be supervised for four additional years upon release and will remain on the sex offenders register for life, preyed on women who described him as 'normal' before he turned violent.
One victim recalled how he threatened to murder her family, and another reported how she was raped and forced to hand over money to pay off drug debts.
The third victim was attacked in 2021, with Esslemont denying the accusations but claiming he punched walls for calm and described choking women as a 'kink.' Prosecutor Derick Nelson noted that Esslemont showed 'absolutely no respect for women,' underscoring the brutality of his conduct.
