A man residing in Pentre has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of assault and coercive control as part of an investigation by South Wales Police.
Daniel Batstone, aged 29, from Pentre, received a jail term of one year and six months on March 23 at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
This sentence was issued after he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on two charges: engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour, and assault causing actual bodily harm.
The case arose after police officers responded to a disturbance at a home in Pentre in August 2025, following a 999 call.
Upon arriving, they spoke with the victim, who revealed that Batstone had been engaging in controlling conduct that affected her life since 2022.
The victim described how Batstone’s actions had a significant negative effect on her everyday life.
She also expressed fears for her safety on multiple occasions owing to threats and violent acts by Batstone.
Among these acts were a violent assault in which Batstone kicked the pregnant victim in the stomach in 2022, and a punch to the face in August 2025.
