In July 2014, a man from Birchwood, Warrington, Daniel Bates, was sentenced following his arrest by a self-proclaimed paedophile hunter who had posed as a 12-year-old girl. Bates, aged 36 and residing on Harcourt Close, appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, where he was sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for 18 months. The charges stemmed from his attempt to engage in sexual activity with a child under 13.

The court's decision means Bates will not serve immediate prison time. It is important to note that this case is not related to Daniel William Bates of Talbot Close.
