ABERDEEN MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER INSTALLING HIDDEN SPY CAMERA AND ABUSING EX-PARTNER
Daniel Anderson, a 28-year-old man from Aberdeen, was involved in a series of abusive behaviors towards his ex-partner.He installed a hidden spy camera in her bedroom to monitor her without her consent, using it to eavesdrop on her conversations.
The court was told that he used the camera to spy and listen in on her private moments, posing a significant invasion of privacy.
Anderson was also found to have sneaked into her home while she was out, and was caught lurking in her bathroom, which greatly disturbed the victim.
The woman had repeatedly attempted to end the relationship, but Anderson responded with emotional blackmail, threatening to kill himself if she tried to leave.
During the court proceedings, details surfaced that Anderson had assaulted her by pushing her to the ground with an open hand slap.
She also encountered a dark shadowy figure in her bathroom, which she believed was Anderson, causing her to scream.
The woman discovered the spy camera after Anderson disclosed information he could only have known if he had been secretly monitoring her, including a suspicious message sent to her phone that was later deleted.
The police searched Anderson’s address and found the camera packaging, along with the device itself hidden in her bedroom.
The court described Anderson’s actions as quite sinister.
He pleaded guilty to charges including domestic abuse involving controlling behavior, physical assault, trespassing, and installing a hidden camera.
The judge, Sheriff Graham Buchanan, acknowledged Anderson’s remorse and his acceptance of responsibility, which was seen as a positive sign.
Anderson was sentenced to a Community Payback Order with two years’ supervision and 120 hours of unpaid work, a sentence positioned as an alternative to custody.
Authorities warned that failure to cooperate could result in revoking the order and sentencing him to prison.
