CYRIL MOAN FROM NEWTOWNARDS AND NORTHERN IRELAND SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CRIMES

In a recent court hearing held in Northern Ireland, Cyril Moan, a resident of Laurel Bank Way in Moneyreagh, faced serious charges related to the possession of indecent images of children.

The proceedings revealed that Moan had pleaded guilty to nine separate counts involving the illegal possession of such material, which included three counts of class A images, three of class B, and three of class C images.

These offenses were committed on April 21, 2022, and the case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the crimes and the details uncovered during the investigation.

Authorities conducted a thorough search of Moan’s residence, during which they seized eight electronic devices.

Subsequent analysis of these devices uncovered a disturbing collection of illegal content.

In total, investigators found 3,487 photographs and 71 videos depicting child abuse, with a particularly alarming subset of 634 images classified as category A, the most severe classification, along with 25 videos of similar content.

The evidence indicated that Moan had organized these illicit materials into separate folders based on different sexual acts, demonstrating a deliberate effort to categorize and easily access the content.

During police interviews, Moan was cooperative and provided full disclosures, including his PIN codes and passwords, which facilitated the investigation.

His admissions were frank, and he did not attempt to conceal his involvement.

The court heard that Moan’s actions and the possession of such material reflected a significant breach of trust and moral boundaries.

Judge Miller, presiding over the case, commented on the emotional and familial context surrounding the defendant.

He noted that it was not surprising to see a breakdown in the relationship between Moan and the father of his grandchildren, suggesting that personal circumstances may have played a role in the case.

Despite the gravity of the crimes, the judge acknowledged that Moan had shown remorse and an understanding of the harm caused by his actions.

As part of the sentencing, Judge Miller imposed a suspended prison term, meaning Moan would not serve time immediately but would be subject to certain conditions.

Additionally, he was ordered to comply with a five-year sexual offences prevention order and was instructed to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years.

These measures aim to monitor and restrict Moan’s activities to prevent any future offenses, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing concern for community safety.
