ROMANIAN PAEDOPHILE CRISTIAN NAE SENTENCED TO NEAR 20 YEARS FOR GROOMING CHILDREN IN ROMANIA AND UK
In a case that highlights the disturbing reach of online predators, Cristian Nae, a 39-year-old man from Romania, has been sentenced to 19 and a half years in prison for his involvement in grooming young children through social media gaming platforms. The conviction was handed down by the Ialomita Tribunal in Romania on March 22, following a comprehensive investigation conducted jointly by Surrey Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA).Back in 2015, Surrey Police initiated an inquiry into Nae's online activities after concerns arose that he was engaging in the grooming of children over the internet. The investigation initially focused on a single victim from Surrey, but as authorities delved deeper, they uncovered evidence of nine additional children from various parts of the United Kingdom and Ireland who had also fallen prey to Nae's manipulative tactics.
It was established that Nae operated from Romania, using a popular gaming website to contact and communicate with his victims. The children, whose ages ranged from eight to twelve years old, were targeted through these online platforms, where Nae attempted to persuade them to engage in sexual activities. His method involved building trust with the children before trying to incite them into inappropriate conduct.
Once investigators confirmed that Nae was based in Romania, a collaborative effort was launched involving the NCA officer stationed in Romania, Surrey Police, and Romanian authorities. This joint operation was crucial in facilitating the investigation across borders and ensuring that Nae was held accountable for his actions.
Despite Nae's attempts to appeal his sentence, his request was ultimately rejected, and he remains sentenced to nearly two decades behind bars. The case underscores the importance of international cooperation in tackling online child exploitation and serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by internet predators operating across borders.
