2008: PERVERT JAILED FOR SIX MONTHS
A man found guilty of sexual misconduct against women in Redditch was sentenced to six months imprisonment by a judge at Worcester Crown Court.Craig Nelder had trailed a woman along a footpath, then inappropriately touched her bottom.
She responded with curses, and he left with a smirk on his face, according to prosecutor Susan Cliff.
Previously, Nelder had inappropriately touched women’s bottoms on four separate occasions while they were walking to school to pick up children.
His past offenses, which also included exposing himself, led to a four-month sentence in 2005.
He was also sentenced to a further three months for making obscene phone calls to a police station concerning young women, Mrs.
Cliff reported.
At 22 years old and living on Hewell Road in Batchley, Nelder was convicted following a trial of sexually assaulting a 27-year-old woman on December 12, 2006.
The judge, John Cavell, mentioned that a probation report viewed Nelder as a high risk for committing additional sex crimes.
Nonetheless, an indeterminate public protection sentence was not granted because his crimes did not qualify as causing 'serious harm' under the guidelines.
Nelder was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for ten years and is already prohibited from working with children indefinitely.
According to Mrs.
Cliff, the victim observed Nelder on a path near brush where he was drinking from a plastic cup.
She feared for her safety, quickened her pace, but he caught up and assaulted her.
DNA evidence from the discarded cup linked him to the scene.
Defense attorney Siobhan Collins stated that Nelder’s actions involved minor sexual contact over clothing.
She added that the contact was brief, not accompanied by threats, and that Nelder ceased as soon as the victim ordered him to stop.
