CRAIG MCGUIRE FROM NARBOROUGH, LEICESTERSHIRE, SENTENCED FOR GROOMING AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENCES IN BIRMINGHAM
In September 2012, Craig McGuire, a 37-year-old man from The Coppice in Narborough, Leicestershire, was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court to six years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges including grooming young girls online, possessing indecent images of children, and voyeurism.Police initially charged McGuire in 2009 following his arrest on suspicion of voyeurism.
During the investigation, officers discovered mobile phones and computers at his residence and formally charged him with voyeurism and possession of indecent images of children.
In 2011, Leicestershire police responded to information received from another force concerning McGuire’s interactions with a young girl.
An arrest was made, and authorities seized his devices, which contained hundreds of indecent images of children along with contact details for nearly 200 girls.
Investigations revealed detailed correspondence between McGuire and four girls aged between 13 and 15 years old.
He had created multiple online profiles under the aliases Steve, Chris, James, and Grant, claiming to be a 15-year-old boy living with his father.
He used an internet image of a young man to enhance his profile.
McGuire engaged in regular online chats and text messaging with the girls, sending them gifts.
He then encouraged them to send him footage and images of themselves performing sexual acts.
Detective Constable Louisa Letts commented on McGuire’s actions, saying: “He preyed on young and vulnerable girls in particular, who were of an impressionable age.
He lured them into a false sense of security, grooming them so that they felt safe with him.” Authorities are urging parents and young people to be cautious about their online interactions.
They are also organizing an online meeting scheduled for Monday, October 8, at 6:30 pm, to provide safety advice.
