LEICESTERSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER RAPING AND KILLING ELDERLY WOMAN
A 26-year-old man named Craig Keogh was convicted of the rape and murder of Jane Hings, a 72-year-old woman, in Fleckney, Leicestershire.
The court heard that Keogh had a relationship with Ms Hings, having previously walked her dog, Paddy, numerous times, and that he was residing nearby in a caravan.
Keogh assaulted her on two occasions, then murdered her by suffocation using a pillow, before taking her valuables, which included her wedding and engagement rings, and a crucifix from her neck.
The case was described by Mr Justice Jeremy Baker as showing 'callousness in the extreme.' The judge sentenced Keogh to serve no less than 32 years in prison.
During sentencing, he pointed out that Keogh exhibited no remorse, citing his actions after the murder—selling the stolen jewelry and purchasing drinks for friends—as evidence of his lack of remorse.
DNA analysis connected him to the scene via semen, and forensic evidence included a baseball cap and a tongue bar, both left behind.
The article highlighted the violent and deliberate nature of the crimes, emphasizing Keogh's insensitivity and the hefty sentence imposed.
