CRAIG EDWARDS SCARISBRICK DOG CRUELTY CASE: INJURED ANIMAL LEFT IN FILTHY CONDITIONS
Craig Alan Edwards, born in June 1984 and residing at 69 Jacksmere Lane, Scarisbrick, Ormskirk L40 9RT, was at the center of a disturbing animal cruelty investigation that culminated in a court conviction. The case involved a dog that Edwards had left in a severely neglected state, with a large, infected open wound believed to have been caused by a badger encounter.Edwards, who previously operated a pub in Buxton, High Peak, Derbyshire, faced six charges related to the cruelty and neglect of the unnamed dog. The magistrates heard harrowing details about the dog's living conditions, which were described as squalid and unsuitable for any animal. The dog was kept in an upstairs accommodation that was stark and unkempt, with bare floors, visible mould, accumulated rubbish, and dog mess scattered throughout the space.
Veterinary examinations revealed the extent of the dog's suffering. The animal had two large, substantial wounds on its lower jaw, which were infected and oozing pus. Due to the severity and extent of the injuries, surgical intervention was deemed impossible. Experts concluded that the injuries were likely inflicted during a fight with a badger, indicating a possible outdoor or semi-outdoor environment where the dog was exposed to wildlife.
Following the trial, Edwards was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail. Additionally, he was banned from keeping any animals for a period of ten years, with the possibility of appeal after five years. This ban was set to expire in 2021, but as of May 2022, Edwards was still residing at his property on Jacksmere Lane. In 2021, he also registered a construction company named ‘Craigs Properties Ltd,’ raising questions about his activities and whereabouts.
His case was handled by the North West Humane Society Authority (NWHSA), which continues to monitor his situation. The case highlights ongoing concerns about animal welfare and the importance of strict enforcement of cruelty laws to prevent such neglect and suffering.
