CRUEL DOG OWNER LEFT 'EMACIATED' PETS TO DIE IN FILTHY HOUSE WHEN SHE MOVED OUT
Court proceedings revealed that Courtney Reanne Martin abandoned her dogs when she moved out of her property in Wolverhampton, leaving no arrangements for their care.Tragically, two of the animals were discovered dead, with one showing a severe neck wound just hours before it died.
The 28-year-old, from Byrne Road in Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to two animal welfare violations following an RSPCA investigation.
She was banned from owning pets for a decade and received a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for a year, at Birmingham Magistrates Court on August 22.
Additionally, she was ordered to pay £400 in costs and a £154 victim surcharge.
The discovery was made after an RSPCA officer responded to concerns from a member of the public about dogs being left unattended on Burleigh Road.
Upon entering the property, which was unclean and cluttered with no food or water visible, the officer heard barking but received no response.
Access was granted by the landlord.
Inside, two dogs were found dead—one male in the garden and a female in the living room—while a third dog was alive but in poor condition.
The deceased female was extremely underweight, scoring only one out of nine on the body condition scale, and had bruising and puncture wounds on her head and neck consistent with dog bites.
A post-mortem confirmed trauma and prolonged malnutrition as causes of death.
The male dog was also emaciated, though the decomposition made it difficult to determine the exact time or cause of death.
The vet concluded that neglect—regarding diet, environment, and general wellbeing—had caused the animals' suffering.
The female suffered bite wounds that inflicted pain and shock, contributing to her death after hours of suffering.
Martin expressed remorse, citing personal struggles at the time.
RSPCA Inspector Ben Jones remarked that the dogs were abandoned without regard for their welfare, leaving them to die instead of seeking help, highlighting the owner’s failure to care for the animals dependable on her care.
