OIL WORKER GUILTY OF STALKING WOMAN MET ON FLIGHT AND ORDERED TO STAY AWAY
An oil company geologist named Costel-Valeriu Ignat, aged 32, was found guilty of stalking a woman he met on a flight from London to Aberdeen. The court documented that Ignat had initially formed a friendship with the woman after they sat together on a flight, sharing professional interests.
He later added her on LinkedIn and corresponded via WhatsApp, expressing interest in a job opportunity within her company.
Despite her expressing that she no longer wished to contact him due to his increasingly intense behavior, Ignat persisted in messaging her and following her to various locations, including her home, at the airport, a bus stop, and social events pertaining to her child's activities.
Ignat also sent her photos of her house and stated he had been waiting outside.
On March 24, he was seen walking towards her home and later waiting on her driveway.
The woman was ultimately forced to escort him away from her home and reported his repeated unapproved appearances, which caused her significant stress and health issues.
Ignat was observed at a beach twice and attended a school event despite being told not to.
The police were alerted after his attendance at the gymnastics event at her child's school.
Ignat admitted to the stalking behavior between February 1 and March 26.
The court imposed a fine of £640 and issued a non-harassment order preventing him from approaching the woman for four years, with strict warnings that any breach could result in imprisonment.
