Milford Haven Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Pembrokeshire, Colin Sharpe, a man residing in Milford Haven, became the focus of a tense police standoff on a clifftop following the revelation of his heinous crimes against a young girl. The incident began when authorities tracked down Sharpe to a remote location at St Ann's Head, at the mouth of Milford Haven, after the victim’s family reported the abuse to the police.

According to court proceedings, Sharpe, aged 40 at the time, had subjected the young girl to repeated sexual abuse over a period of several years, starting when she was under the age of 13. The prosecuting lawyer, Ian Wright, detailed that the abuse was ongoing and occurred whenever Sharpe saw an opportunity, highlighting the predatory nature of his actions. The girl, in a courageous move, confided in her mother in March of that year, revealing that Sharpe had been touching her inappropriately and naming him as her abuser.

Once the police were informed, they launched a search for Sharpe. They located him in a vehicle parked at St Ann’s Head, a well-known scenic area at the entrance to Milford Haven. Officers quickly moved to apprehend him, blocking his exit with their patrol car. However, Sharpe responded by attempting to evade arrest, speeding off across the grass towards the cliff edge. His vehicle then collided with a fence, forcing him to abandon it and flee on foot towards the clifftop.

What ensued was a tense standoff between Sharpe and the police. Recognizing the danger, authorities brought in a specialist negotiator to communicate with him and attempt to persuade him to surrender peacefully. After a prolonged negotiation, Sharpe was finally detained and taken into custody.

During the court hearing at Swansea Crown Court, it was revealed that Sharpe had admitted to six sexual offences involving a child. It was noted that he had no prior convictions. The impact of his crimes on the young girl was profound; her statement, read aloud in court, described nightmares where Sharpe would come after her, threaten her, and physically pin her down, illustrating the lasting trauma inflicted.

Judge Paul Thomas QC condemned Sharpe’s actions, emphasizing that over many years, he had exploited the girl solely for his own selfish sexual gratification, disregarding her well-being and the devastating effects of his abuse. Considering the guilty pleas and following sentencing guidelines, the judge sentenced Sharpe to 10 years in prison. He will serve approximately half of that term before being released on licence, with the remainder to be served under supervision in the community.

Furthermore, Sharpe was declared a lifelong registered sex offender and was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, restricting his access to children and ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. This case underscores the serious consequences of such predatory behavior and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals from harm.
