ABERDEEN MAN, 76, FINED FOR RACIST TIRADE AT YOUTH FOOTBALL MATCH
An elderly businessman has been convicted of racially insulting an 11-year-old boy during a football match in Aberdeen.Colin Manderson, aged 76, who held senior roles in various oil and gas companies after being the chief executive of Asco until 2003, was accused of shouting a racist slur at the child after a youth game at Spain Park, Banks O’Dee Sports Centre.
The incident occurred on May 26 of the previous year.
Despite denying the allegations, Manderson was found guilty after a trial presided over by Sheriff Lesley Johnston.
The court established that he used a racial slur, calling the child a “dirty hacking black b******,” which was deemed racially aggravated and intended to cause alarm or distress.
As a result, Sheriff Johnston fined Manderson a total of £1,060 for this offence, which is a breach of the Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act 2021.
The fine reflects the seriousness of the racially motivated behaviour.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about racial abuse in public settings and the importance of accountability for hate crimes.
