COLIN FISHER GIBRALTAR SHOCKER: MAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND VOYEURISM IN THE ROCK
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through Gibraltar, 29-year-old Colin Fisher has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being found guilty of possessing and distributing indecent images of children, along with multiple counts of voyeurism.The case, which was prosecuted at the Supreme Court, revealed the disturbing extent of Fisher's actions and the serious implications for the community.
Fisher's arrest in March was the result of a thorough investigation conducted by officers from the Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) Safeguarding Unit, working in collaboration with Interpol USA.
The investigation uncovered a significant collection of illicit images, including videos, which Fisher had actively sought out and stored.
The court heard that Fisher was involved in the possession of 48 indecent photographs, but the most serious charge involved the display of 150 indecent images of children, which he showed between April and September 2014.
Chief Justice Anthony Dudley described this particular offence as the most grave among the charges.
During the sentencing, Chief Justice Dudley emphasized the heinous nature of the crimes, noting that the victims depicted were clearly pre-pubescent children.
He pointed out that the existence of a market for such images not only perpetuates the abuse but also encourages the creation of even more horrific material.
The court highlighted aggravating factors such as Fisher’s use of software to evade detection, the young age of the children involved, and the fact that the collection included moving images, which are considered particularly disturbing.
It was confirmed that none of the images involved local children, nor was there any evidence to suggest that the photographs or videos were taken within Gibraltar or nearby areas.
Despite this, the nature of the crimes and the exploitation involved in the collection were deemed serious enough to warrant a substantial sentence.
In addition to the child exploitation charges, Fisher faced two counts of voyeurism.
These involved a person with whom he had a relationship, whom he secretly recorded during intimate moments without her knowledge.
These recordings were subsequently shared with a third party, further aggravating the case.
It was also revealed that Fisher, who previously held managerial responsibilities at the King’s Bastion Leisure Centre, had installed covert recording devices in employees’ changing areas.
He used these devices to film two female staff members as they undressed, an act that exploited his position of trust and authority.
The remaining three voyeurism charges related to this exploitation of his managerial role, which allowed him to carry out these invasive acts.
Fisher’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for privacy and the safety of others.
At sentencing, Chief Justice Dudley imposed a total prison term of three years and eight months for all seven charges.
It was noted that Fisher had already served six months of his sentence, and he will serve the remaining period in custody.
The case has raised serious concerns about child safety and privacy within Gibraltar, highlighting the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in combating such heinous crimes.
