A 58-year-old man named Colin Dean from Orchard Road, Histon, Cambridgeshire, has been convicted of numerous sexual offences committed in the 1980s. His crimes include four counts of indecent assault on a minor and four counts of encouraging a boy to carry out an act of gross indecency. The incidents involved the sexual abuse of a child under 14 years old, taking place at various locations within Cambridgeshire during 1980 to 1985. The offences were only disclosed in July 2021. Dean was tried at Cambridge Crown Court, where he was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to remain on the sex offender register indefinitely. Police officials highlighted the severity of the abuse during the sentencing, with Detective Sergeant Mark Williamson stating, 'Dean exploited the child for sexual abuse, and it’s good to see him imprisoned.' The investigation and resulting conviction were made possible thanks to the victim’s bravery, and it stands as an example of justice for the harm caused.
