Westcliff Rapist
In April 2002, Colin Blackwell, aged 59, was sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of a series of heinous crimes against a young girl in Westcliff. A judge described Blackwell's actions as 'a horrific catalogue of abuse' during the court proceedings.
Blackwell's offending began when the girl was only eight years old, and she is now 17. He pleaded guilty at Basildon Crown Court to five counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault, with the prosecution revealing that he had interfered with the girl on numerous occasions—so many that she eventually lost count.
Prosecutor Stephanie Farrimond stated that the girl had begged Blackwell to stop having sex with her, but despite her pleas, he continued his abusive behavior. The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, confided to a friend about the rapes and molestation she endured. Police subsequently questioned her and later arrested Blackwell.
Judge Michael Yelton expressed his condemnation of Blackwell's actions, describing the case as 'a horrific catalogue of abuse.'
