CLIVE WHITTAKER FROM LLANFAIRFECHAN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES
In a case that has shocked the community of Llanfairfechan, Clive Whittaker, a 62-year-old man who previously operated a computer repair business, faced serious allegations related to the possession of indecent images of children. The incident came to light in September when police executed a search warrant at his residence on Pen y Bryn, leading to the discovery of an alarming collection of illicit material stored on his computer.During the hearing at Caernarfon Crown Court, it was revealed that Whittaker had admitted to creating hundreds of indecent images. However, the authorities uncovered an even more disturbing cache of images—approximately 45,000 uncategorized photographs depicting children, which had been stored on his device. This extensive collection underscored the severity of the offense and the potential risk posed to vulnerable minors.
Judge Huw Rees presided over the case and emphasized the gravity of the situation. In his sentencing, he imposed a two-year community order on Whittaker, along with a sexual harm prevention order. Additionally, Whittaker is required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years. The judge clarified that the community order was not intended as a lenient or 'soft' punishment, but rather a measure aimed at rehabilitation and monitoring.
Addressing Whittaker directly, Judge Rees remarked, “By the nature of the images and ages of the children, it’s easy to conclude these children would have been vulnerable. Showing any perverted interest creates a demand for further abuse of children to take place.” The judge also acknowledged Whittaker’s apparent remorse, stating, “I am glad to hear you are ashamed,” which reflected the court’s recognition of the seriousness of the offense and the importance of addressing the harm caused.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the importance of vigilance within communities like Llanfairfechan to protect vulnerable children from such heinous crimes.
