CLIVE HUNT LIVINGSTON SEX ABUSE SCANDAL: FORMER POOL ATTENDANT SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS IN EDINBURGH COURT
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Livingston community, Clive Hunt, a 58-year-old former swimming pool attendant, has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young girls.The heinous crimes, which took place approximately two decades ago, were brought to light only after a lengthy investigation and legal process.
Hunt’s offenses came to public attention when one of his victims, who was just five years old at the time the abuse began, reported the incidents to authorities when she reached the age of 13.
The case was further complicated by the fact that a childhood friend of the victim also came forward with allegations against Hunt, which ultimately led to the case being brought before the courts after a delay of 16 years.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard detailed testimonies from the victims, revealing the disturbing nature of Hunt’s misconduct.
One of the victims, now 29 years old, recounted how Hunt would enter the showers at the school swimming pool and ask her to remove her swimming costume.
She also described being abused during nature walks, where Hunt threatened to kill her pet dog if she disclosed what was happening.
The crimes were committed at various locations, including private residences in West Lothian and at the schools where Hunt was employed.
The court was told that Hunt’s actions spanned several years, with one victim, who was seven when the abuse started, being subjected to Hunt’s misconduct at her home in Livingston over nearly five years.
Judge Lady Cosgrove, after reviewing background reports and considering the jury’s verdict, sentenced Hunt on Wednesday to six years in prison.
The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes and the impact on the victims, who had endured years of trauma.
During the trial, one of the victims described her experience, saying, “I used to be interested in wildlife.
He used to show me frogs and little animals and things like that.
He would sort of use these things.” She also revealed the threats Hunt made, stating, “He threatened to kill my mum and my dog if I told my mum.” The court’s proceedings highlighted the long-lasting effects of Hunt’s abuse and underscored the importance of justice for victims of such heinous acts, especially when committed by someone in a position of trust and authority within the community of Livingston.
