SURREY MAN JAILED FOR RAPING TEEN AT SURBITON CAR PARK
A man named Clinton Williams, aged 27 from St Mark's Hill, was imprisoned for five years after being convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl at the top of Sainsbury's multi-storey car park in Surbiton. The incident occurred on the night of October 26, 2001, when Williams took the girl to the car park's upper level, threw her to the ground, and held her wrists while assaulting her.
The victim screamed and tried to push him away, but Williams provocatively told her, "Come on, you know you want it." The judge, Richard Haworth, described Williams' attitude as "arrogant" and noted he "couldn't have cared less whether she consented to sex or not." The judge also stated, "You have been convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl.
She was devastated and you showed no remorse." Initially denying the rape, Williams admitted that sex took place.
He was on the run for over a year after jumping bail, but was eventually captured and returned to Wandsworth Prison to serve his sentence.
In addition to the jail time, Williams received a further 12 months for breaching bail and intimidating the victim, who was attending court for sentencing.
Detective Inspector Will Young commented that "five years was not the sentence I was hoping for," highlighting the trial's complexities and Williams's previous flight from justice.
The victim displayed significant courage during the proceedings, and the assault's impact on her was profound, though she is now beginning to rebuild her life.
