'FULL OF REGRET' LANARKSHIRE MAN CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES DODGES JAIL SENTENCE
A Lanarkshire man will be on the sex offenders' register for three years after being caught with child abuse images.
Christopher Roy, 37, admitted downloading 273 photos and videos at his then home in Carfin between February and August 2024.
Defence lawyer Tom Watters told Hamilton Sheriff Court that Roy, who now lives in Cumbria, England, is "full of regret".
Sheriff Kevin McCallum said the offence was "extremely serious" and a jail sentence was justified, citing Lanarkshire Live.
He told Roy: "Offences of this nature are not victimless.
Every image records a crime against a child." However, the sheriff noted that Roy was a first offender and the number of images was relatively low, leading to the decision to make a community payback order.
Roy must do 270 hours of unpaid work and attend a programme for offenders under a three-year supervision order.
The order forbids unsupervised contact with children and restricts his internet use.
