BRAVE TEEN HELPS BRING SHAFTESBURY SEX OFFENDER TO JUSTICE
A man has been incarcerated following the bravery of a teenage girl, which resulted in his conviction for sexual assault and possession of indecent images of children.In August 2024, while intoxicated, Jones approached a girl he knew at a residence in Shaftesbury and sexually assaulted her.
The girl immediately told her family, and the incident was reported to Dorset Police.
Jones was taken into custody, prompting an investigation by Dorset Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team (CAIT), with assistance from the force’s Digital Forensics Unit.
During this investigation, officers reviewed his electronic devices and uncovered indecent images of minors.
Such images are classified from categories A to C, with A being the most severe.
Jones possessed two images classified as Category B and eight images classified as Category C.
In addition to serving time in prison, he was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Detective Constable Mark Walsh of CAIT commented: “I would like to thank the victim in this case for her courage in reporting this matter and the strength she has shown throughout the investigation.
Her bravery will inspire others who have been the victim of abuse to come forward and know that Dorset Police will do everything in its power to ensure offenders are held accountable for their actions.”
