CHILD SEX OFFENDER CHRISTOPHER HINDLEY JAILED FOR HISTORIC ABUSE
A predator who targeted a young child and subjected him to serious sexual offences has been sentenced to prison.Liverpool Crown Court heard that Christopher Hindley, age 56, from Culcheth, committed multiple offences including indecent assault, gross indecency, and attempted buggary, over a period spanning the late 1980s to the 1990s in Warrington.
The victim was under 10 when the abuse began, with Hindley, then over 20, initiating contact through inappropriate touching, which the young boy was too young to understand as wrong.
Hindley's actions escalated to performing sex acts and encouraging the boy to do the same, with the judge describing some acts as akin to rape but stating the court was constrained by the laws at the time of the offences.
Despite the ongoing abuse, Hindley led a normal life, marrying and having children, while the victim endured years of trauma, feeling ashamed, manipulated, and unable to speak out initially.
During sentencing, Hindley appeared without legal representation but continued to maintain his innocence and has filed an appeal.
The judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison, with an extended license of one year on release, and mandated lifelong registration as a sex offender.
The court emphasized the profound and lasting impact on the victim, who bravely gave evidence and expressed relief at the guilty verdict, while his mother expressed heartbreak and guilt for not knowing earlier.
The case highlights the longstanding damage caused by such offences and affirms that only custodial sentencing is appropriate for such serious conduct.
