ABERDEEN MAN CAUGHT STALKING AND SENDING ABUSIVE MESSAGES TO EX-GIRLFRIEND
A man named Christopher Elrick has been admonished after behaving in a concerning manner towards his ex-girlfriend, Lesley Michie.Over the course of 10 days last year, after she ended their long-term relationship, Elrick repeatedly showed up uninvited at her home in the West End of Aberdeen between May 24 and June 3, causing her to feel scared and alarmed.
Court reports stated that he also called her frequently, sent her abusive emails, letters, and flowers in an obsessive manner.
Elrick, aged 31 and residing at 18 Nellfield Place, appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court after previously admitting his conduct as part of his trial earlier this year.
The court heard that Ms.
Michie was distressed during her testimony, leading Elrick to admit his actions and plead guilty.
His solicitor, Andrew Ormiston, requested an absolute discharge, arguing that the case was unusual and that further punishment would be unwise, emphasizing Elrick’s remorse and lack of previous convictions.
Sheriff Kenneth Stewart, however, deemed an absolute discharge inappropriate and decided to admonish Elrick of the charge after recognizing his good behaviour since the incident, noting that his guilty plea was made only after seeing Ms.
Michie in distress.
The case highlights the impact of obsessive stalking and harassment, and the court’s decision reflects a balance between understanding Elrick’s remorse and the seriousness of his actions.
