FLINTSHIRE MAN SENTENCED FOR ABUSIVE ASSAULTS ON PARTNER
A man from Flintshire, Christopher Davies, admitted to assaulting his partner and applying intentional strangulation. He was sentenced by Mold Crown Court to a two-year jail term, suspended for two years.
The 35-year-old resident of Moor Avenue, Holywell, was convicted of hitting his partner and temporarily constricting her neck.
Prosecutor Jemma Gordon outlined that on November 30 of the previous year, Davies’ friend requested to use his bank card at their residence.
When his partner refused, Davies reacted by slapping her and then briefly grabbing her neck for a few seconds, during which her neck appeared red and sore.
Later that day, he also slammed a dining chair as if to break it.
In a separate incident on December 12, Davies, intoxicated and possibly under the influence of cocaine during a night out with friends in Prestatyn, showed signs of paranoia.
After returning home, he assaulted his partner by hitting her multiple times in the head and face and tearing her underwear.
She escaped outside, called 999 after receiving no response from neighbors, and waited in her car for police.
In the months of January and February, he broke bail conditions by sending messages attempting to manipulate her emotionally and suggesting he might be branded a 'wife beater'.
The defense described his behavior as 'appalling' but pointed out he showed remorse and had some positive qualities.
The judge mentioned that Davies' reactions during the November incident were angry and that he was in a 'jealous rage' during December.
His guilty plea and some acknowledgment of his wrongdoing were considered.
The court sentenced him to eight months for the strangulation and 16 months for assault causing actual bodily harm, both suspended.
Additional requirements included 180 hours of unpaid work, 26 counseling sessions, and wearing an alcohol monitoring device for 120 days.
A five-year restraining order was also imposed.
