CHRISTOPHER BRYON FROM DOVERIDGE CAUGHT WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AGAIN AT DERBY CROWN COURT

In a disturbing case that highlights ongoing concerns about child exploitation, Christopher Bryon, a resident of Doveridge, was found to be in possession of indecent images of children once again, despite previous convictions and interventions. The incident took place in Derbyshire, where Bryon was subjected to court proceedings after authorities uncovered further evidence of his continued engagement with illegal material.

According to court records, Bryon, aged 54, was caught with a set of images on his personal computer that included 11 photographs classified as the lowest category of indecency, along with a prohibited cartoon image depicting sexual activity between an adult and a child. This discovery was made possible because Bryon was under surveillance by the dangerous persons management unit, which monitors individuals deemed to pose a risk due to their criminal history.

Bryon, who resides on High Street in Doveridge, admitted to the charges brought against him. During the hearing, his legal representative, Nicola Hunt, emphasized that her client was seeking help for his compulsive behavior, stating, “He has told me he is crying out for further guidance and help for his behaviour.” Hunt also argued that if Bryon were to be imprisoned, he would not have access to the same level of support and therapeutic intervention that he would receive through a community order.

Judge Ebraham Mooncey addressed the court, acknowledging the complexity of sentencing in this case. He noted, “Sentencing you does create certain difficulties because, on the one hand, there’s the repetitive behaviour on your part of offences of a sexual nature. On the other hand, the offending is getting less serious.” The judge pointed out that the images Bryon possessed appeared to be small and that his search history indicated attempts to be cautious in his online activity. Nonetheless, the court made it clear that Bryon must cease viewing pornography altogether to prevent further unlawful material from surfacing.

As part of his sentence, Bryon is required to participate in a sex offenders’ group work programme, which will be part of a three-year community order. Additionally, he is mandated to register as a sex offender for five years and is permanently prohibited from working with children. Bryon is already subject to a sexual offences prevention order, which imposes further restrictions on his activities.

Historical context reveals that Bryon has a long-standing history of sexual offences. In 2005, he was sentenced to 15 months in prison for indecent assault on a girl. More recently, in April of the previous year, he received an eight-month sentence after police discovered 244 child abuse images on his computer, including 53 in the most severe categories. The court heard that these images may have been an attempt by Bryon to relive or reactivate past abusive experiences.

Judge Hilary Watson, presiding over the case, commented on the nature of the images, stating, “The images were of a form that may have been re-living or reactivating what you were actively engaged on in 2005.” Bryon was ordered to register on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years and was banned from being alone with anyone under 18. He was also prohibited from installing or using equipment that could facilitate the removal of material from his computer. The court expressed concern that Bryon’s previous therapy had not provided him with sufficient control over his deviant impulses, which continued to manifest through his possession and distribution of illegal images.
