CHRISTOPHER BROOKS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN BURWELL NEAR CAMBRIDGE

In a case that has shocked the community of Burwell near Cambridge, Christopher Brooks, a 54-year-old artist residing on Silver Street, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a young girl. The crimes, which spanned over three years, involved a pattern of degrading and emotionally damaging attacks that began when the victim was just 11 years old and continued until she was 15.

According to court proceedings held at Guildford Crown Court in Surrey, Brooks subjected his young victim to a disturbing sequence of sexual assaults and cruel psychological taunts. The court heard that Brooks would not only assault her physically but also humiliate her publicly, often telling her, “You look fat,” in front of others, thereby adding a layer of emotional torment to her suffering.

Throughout the sentencing, Judge Peter Moss emphasized the severity of Brooks’s actions, condemning his lack of remorse. The judge stated plainly that Brooks had shown no remorse for his crimes, which deeply affected the victim and her family. Brooks, who appeared impassively in the dock during the hearing, was also ordered to register as a sex offender, a measure intended to monitor his conduct following his release.

Brooks’s conviction came after a jury unanimously found him guilty of two counts of indecent assault and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child. The trial revealed that Brooks, a married man with no children of his own, denied the allegations, claiming that the victim had initiated the contact. His defense attorney, Patricia May, described her client as being in “total denial” and highlighted his previously good character, with his wife Karen standing by his side during the proceedings.

The incidents in question took place over a period from August 31, 2002, to October 10, 2005. The court was told that the victim, now 17 and unable to be named for legal reasons, endured both physical and emotional pain during the assaults. Her courage in confiding in two school friends was instrumental in bringing the case to the attention of authorities. Judge Moss praised the friends for their support, acknowledging that their intervention was crucial in ensuring justice was served.

In his remarks, Judge Moss also highlighted the devastating impact of Brooks’s actions on the victim’s family, describing his conduct as deliberately cruel. The judge suggested that Brooks’s behavior was an attempt to conceal his sexual attraction to the girl, which he believed was a calculated effort to hide his true intentions from others. The sentencing reflects the court’s recognition of the profound harm caused by Brooks’s actions and the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals from such predatory behavior.
