SEX OFFENDER CHRISTOPHER ANTHONY JAILED FOR FAILING TO NOTIFY POLICE
A sex offender has been sentenced to jail for failing to notify police of his whereabouts after being released from Dartmoor Prison.Christopher Anthony, aged 31, who has three convictions for sexually assaulting women in public places and five for breaching the sex offenders register, was released from prison on June 2.
He was required to inform police of his location within three days but failed to do so.
Instead of attending a probation meeting, he went to Exeter and within eight days was arrested for being intoxicated at the bus station and taken to hospital for a heroin overdose.
He was later arrested at St David’s Station on June 10.
Anthony had previously lived in hostels at Camperdown Street, Plymouth, and Tehidy in Camborne, and had a record of sexual offending, including an incident in 2014 where he approached a woman and grabbed her between the legs outside a McDonald's in Exeter.
The judge branded him a risk to society, citing his refusal to work with police monitoring teams and his failure to manage himself.
He was jailed for 15 months at Exeter Crown Court for breaching the sex offenders' register.
Prosecutors highlighted that he had enjoyed a record of sexual offenses and had failed to attend meetings and notify police as required, despite police records showing his homelessness and mobility.
His defense argued he suffers from learning difficulties and did not intentionally avoid the restrictions.
The judge emphasized Anthony's history and potential risk to society during sentencing.
