CHRISTOPHER ALLISON'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN RISBY AND BEYOND: JAIL SENTENCE INCREASED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE
In a significant development in a high-profile case, Christopher Allison, a psychiatrist with a disturbing history of abusing his patients, has seen his prison sentence increased following an appeal. Allison, who was living in Risby near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, was originally sentenced to eight years in prison, but the Court of Appeal has now deemed that sentence to be unduly lenient and has increased it to 10 years.Allison's criminal activities came to light after he was convicted in December 2002 at Winchester Crown Court. The court found him guilty of a total of 12 counts, including 10 counts of indecent assault and two counts of rape. The offences spanned over a period of 14 years, during which he practiced medicine in various locations including Ashford and Canterbury in Kent, Basingstoke, and Oxford.
The case revealed a deeply troubling breach of trust, as Allison exploited his position as a healthcare professional to prey on vulnerable women and girls, some as young as 16. The victims, who came forward to testify, expressed their distress over the abuse, which they described as occurring during therapy sessions. During the court proceedings, Allison claimed that the sexual assaults were a necessary part of his treatment, a justification that was met with outrage and disbelief.
The court heard that Allison's name had been removed from the medical register in August 2000, effectively barring him from practicing medicine ever again. Lord Justice Mantell, presiding over the appeal alongside Mr Justice Nelson and Mr Justice Jack, emphasized the gravity of the case, describing it as involving a
