RAF SERVICEMAN JAILED FOR 'APPALLING' ATTACKS ON PARTNER
A member of the RAF was sentenced to prison by an Oxford judge for a series of severe assaults on his partner, which the judge described as ‘appalling’.
Chris Cubitt, who had served in the air force since he was 16 and participated in multiple deployments including a recent tour in Iraq, was found guilty of causing actual bodily harm, assault by beating, and criminal damage.
Evidence presented in court revealed that Cubitt had burned his partner’s backside with hot steam from an iron, resulting in melted pyjamas, and that a month later, he carried out a prolonged assault leaving her with bruises across her body.
The sentencing judge, Ian Pringle QC, imposed a 22-month prison term.
In considering his record and remorse, as well as the possibility that he could have continued in the RAF if community service had been approved, the court decided against imposing a community order.
Additionally, a lifelong restraining order was issued to bar Cubitt from contacting his victim.
Prosecutor Christopher Pembridge detailed incidents including Cubitt choking his partner, destroying a photograph of her, attempting to push her down stairs, and repeatedly attacking her while she was intoxicated.
The court was also informed that Cubitt had a prior conviction for partner assault in 2015.
