Potters Bar Animal Abuser
In a disturbing case that shocked the community of Potters Bar, Chris Andrews, born around 1992 and residing on Beechwood Avenue, was found guilty of heinous acts of animal cruelty and public disorder. The incident, which took place on Saturday, April 9, 2016, culminated in Andrews being sentenced on April 11, 2016, at Hatfield Remand Court.

According to reports, police officers responded to a call from a local fitness centre situated on Mount Grace Road at approximately 4 p.m. The call was prompted by witnesses who reported that a man, later identified as Andrews, had verbally threatened a staff member at the facility. The situation escalated when Andrews left the fitness centre and proceeded to the nearby High Street.

There, he approached a woman and launched a brutal attack on her 14-year-old Yorkshire terrier. Andrews kicked the dog multiple times, inflicting severe bruising that necessitated veterinary treatment. The attack was described as unprovoked and senseless, causing significant distress not only to the dog’s owner but also to bystanders who witnessed the assault.

Later that day, police officers executed a search at Andrews’ residence on Beechwood Avenue, where he was promptly arrested. He was subsequently charged with cruelty to an animal and a public order offense under section 4. The case drew attention from local authorities and animal welfare advocates alike.

PC Paul Francis, speaking about the incident, expressed his concern: “These were unprovoked incidents affecting not only the victims but others who witnessed what happened. In the case of the offence against the dog, this was totally senseless and understandably distressing for her owner.”

Andrews was sentenced to a total of 12 weeks in prison, with six weeks allocated for each of the charges. Additionally, he was ordered to pay compensation to both the dog’s owner and the staff member involved in the initial incident. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of violent behavior in public spaces.
