POTTERS BAR MAN WHO KILLED HIS MUM SAID PUTIN HAD STOLEN HIS THOUGHTS
Charles Dearden, aged 31, was involved in a fatal incident where he killed his mother, Kim Dearden, who was 63, at their residence on Oakfield Close in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.The event took place on June 20, and prior to the murder, Dearden admitted to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility following an assault on his mother the day before.
Court testimony revealed that Dearden had been institutionalized after exhibiting unstable and aggressive conduct, which included destroying household items, behaving in a nudist and unpredictable manner, and claiming that Vladimir Putin was stealing his thoughts.
Police were summoned after neighbors reported auditory disturbances.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Dearden attempting to strangle his dog and his mother lying motionless on the floor.
A kitchen knife, identified as the murder weapon, was found nearby.
Psychiatric assessments indicated that Dearden believed he was Jesus Christ, considered himself a minor Harry Potter, and claimed that Putin was hijacking his thoughts.
Four psychiatrists concluded that he was experiencing severe psychotic episodes during the murder.
Earlier actions included assaulting his mother, who attributed his unusual behavior to cannabis use.
The judge called the case “a terribly sad and tragic incident” and ordered Dearden to be detained in a mental health facility under the Mental Health Act, citing concerns about his safety and public safety.
An investigation was also initiated to determine why Dearden was released from Barnet Hospital just prior to the attack.
