CARLOS FLETCHER SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR RAPES AND BLACKMAIL IN WOLVERHAMPTON
A man named Carlos Fletcher from Wolverhampton has been sentenced to a significant prison term after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses, including rape and blackmail. The case came to light thanks to the brave testimonies of two women who chose to come forward to report their experiences.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement officers and the victims, justice has been served.
Fletcher, who resides on Junction Road in the Ettingshall area of Wolverhampton, faced a five-day trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Throughout proceedings, he maintained his innocence, denying all charges brought against him.
The charges included rape, attempted rape of a minor, sexual activity with a minor, causing or inciting a minor to engage in sexual acts, and blackmail.
Despite his denials, the evidence presented during the trial was compelling.
The first victim contacted authorities in the autumn of 2020.
She revealed that in 2017, when she was just 14 years old, Fletcher had repeatedly forced her into sexual activities.
Over time, he exerted further pressure by requesting naked images of her, which she was coerced into sending.
The second woman, approximately 20 years old at the time of the incident, also reached out for help after confiding in a friend.
She described how Fletcher had similarly pressured her into sending nude photographs and had threatened to share them with others if she did not pay him money.
Law enforcement officials, including digital forensic specialists, extensively examined Fletcher’s electronic devices.
They successfully retrieved compromising images and messages from his phone, which served as crucial evidence during the trial.
This digital evidence helped to build a strong case against him, revealing the extent of his misconduct.
Following a careful consideration of all facts, the jury found Fletcher guilty on all five counts on April 9.
Subsequently, on June 1, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The conviction represents a significant victory for victim support and protection efforts in Wolverhampton.
Detective Constable David Powles, who works within the Public Protection Unit, emphasized the importance of the victims' bravery.
“The courage of these two women in coming forward and sharing what happened to them was crucial in securing this conviction,” he remarked.
“We have supported them at every stage of the investigation, legal proceedings, and during court testimonies.
Hopefully, this outcome will aid in their ongoing recovery from the trauma they endured.” He also assured the public that law enforcement agencies are committed to helping victims of sexual assault all year round.
They encourage anyone who has experienced such incidents, regardless of how much time has passed, to reach out to specially trained officers for support and guidance.
