CARDIFF NIGHTCLUB BOSS CARLOS BROWN JAILED FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A Cardiff nightclub proprietor has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of raping and sexually abusing two young women.Carlos Brown, who operated Charlie Brown’s nightclub on St Mary Street, was described as a “dangerous individual” with “dysfunctional attitudes towards young women.” One victim, a 20-year-old university student, only realized she had been raped after police reviewed CCTV footage that captured the assault.
Brown was involved in multiple predatory acts, including giving alcohol to the victim, making inappropriate advances, and taking her to an office where she was unaware of what was happening, as stated by the judge.
The video evidence showed him grabbing her forcefully and then taking her to sofas within the club to carry out the assault.
He later raped her again while she was still under the influence of alcohol and asleep.
The court described Brown’s attitude as depraved, and also convicted him of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old in another incident.
His offending was characterized by exploiting victims’ alcohol consumption and their state of intoxication or unconsciousness.
Brown, aged 53, had previous convictions for indecent assault.
The judge described him as a “dangerous offender,” sentencing him to 15 years for each rape, in addition to two years for the sexual assault, all to be served concurrently.
He was told he must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being considered for release, with a further six years on licence period.
