CARL WRIGHT FROM HARLINGTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AT SANDGATE YOUTH FC
In a case that has shocked the local community, Carl Wright, a 58-year-old man from Brendon Close in Harlington, has been convicted and sentenced for serious sexual offenses involving a young boy. The incident took place in March 2018 and has since led to a significant legal outcome, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding minors and holding offenders accountable. On Wednesday, 15 August, Wright was formally sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court to serve three years and six months in prison. In addition to his custodial sentence, he was handed a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which imposes strict restrictions on his contact with minors and monitors his activities to prevent further offenses. Furthermore, Wright will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing oversight and community safety.
Wright had previously pleaded guilty on Wednesday, 18 July, to charges of sexual assault by touching a child aged between 13 and 15 years, as well as false imprisonment. The charges stem from an incident that was reported to police by the victim’s mother on Saturday, 17 March 2018. According to her account, her 13-year-old son had been sexually assaulted by Wright, who was involved with coaching at Sandgate Youth Football Club.
The young boy had been staying at Wright’s home the night before the assault, having watched a football game. Early that Saturday morning, around 2 a.m., Wright entered the boy’s room while he was sleeping and committed the sexual assault. The victim, upon realizing what was happening, quickly got up, dressed, and attempted to leave the house. However, Wright prevented him from leaving immediately.
The boy pleaded with Wright to let him go home, and eventually, Wright drove him back to his own residence. During this distressing encounter, Wright tried to downplay the incident by suggesting to the boy’s mother that there had been a misunderstanding. Despite this, once the boy disclosed the assault to his mother, police were promptly called to investigate the matter.
Law enforcement officers arrested Wright later that morning, on Saturday, 17 March 2018, on suspicion of sexual touching and false imprisonment. The following day, Sunday, 18 March, he was formally charged with these offenses. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of authorities to combat abuse and protect vulnerable children from exploitation and harm.
