ABERBARGOED MAN SENTENCED TO AT LEAST 25 YEARS FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF PARTNER
Carl Silcox, a 45-year-old resident of Commercial Street in Aberbargoed, Caerphilly County, was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Adell Cowan.The assault was described as particularly brutal and ruthless, with Silcox using a wooden broom handle to inflict harm.
The injuries sustained included damage to her face, head, and internal organs, and the incident occurred in October 2020.
Silcox stated that he awoke to find Cowan dead and initially informed emergency services that she had died when calling 999 shortly after midnight on October 18, 2020.
An autopsy showed that her death could not be explained by natural causes and revealed extensive bruising, swelling, rib fractures, and serious internal injuries.
The presiding judge highlighted Cowan’s vulnerability, referencing her alcohol dependency and allegations made by Silcox that she was involved in sex work.
A jury convicted Silcox of murder after he denied the charges, and he was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years imprisonment.
Throughout the trial, the prosecutor detailed Silcox’s persistent assaults on Cowan, while her family mourned her loss and called for justice, condemning the brutality of the attack and the pain it caused to those who loved her.
