A man who murdered another individual by repeatedly stamping on his head has had his sentence increased by the Court of Appeal.

Carl Ellitts received a life sentence after he carried out a brutal attack on Roy Deeley-Price in Wolverhampton last year, described as a 'tornado of violence.' The 26-year-old was also convicted of four separate counts of raping two women, committing three different robberies, and assaulting with intent to rob during a four-day spree.

On Tuesday, judges decided to raise the minimum term of Ellitts’s life sentence from 27 years to 35 years.

Ellitts, who has no fixed address, was caught on CCTV footage approaching Mr.

Deeley-Price, aged 48, at a petrol station cashpoint on Tettenhall Road on May 29, 2023.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told that Ellitts followed his victim before launching a lethal assault.

The court also heard that the two women he raped suffered psychological effects such as flashbacks and anxiety due to the attacks.

Initially, Ellitts was sentenced to 10 years for each rape, with the sentences running concurrently, and was given eight years concurrently for the robberies, plus three years for the assault with intent to rob.

The Attorney General’s Office referred his sentence to the Court of Appeal, arguing it was insufficient considering the nature of the crimes.

Bill Emlyn Jones KC, representing the government, pointed out that the attacks involved humiliating and degrading conduct, targeting particularly vulnerable victims.

Lord Justice Stuart-Smith commented on Ellitts’s troubling history of violence, especially toward women, describing the murder as involving 'senseless violence.' He added that the original sentence did not adequately reflect the severity of the criminal acts.

Additionally, a trial judge previously adjusted Ellitts’s minimum term to 28.5 years due to an error in credit calculation following a guilty plea.

Ellitts was convicted of raping two women following a trial but admitted to the other offences, including the murder.
