CAMPBELL MCAULAY FROM LIFF BUSTED WITH THOUSANDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN DUNDEE POLICE RAID
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Campbell McAulay, a resident of Liff near Dundee, was found to be in possession of an alarming number of indecent images of children during a police operation conducted in June 2018.The police raid uncovered a disturbing collection of over 7,300 illicit images stored across multiple devices in McAulay’s home, raising serious concerns about his activities and the safety of minors.
According to the prosecution, Deputy Fiscal Charmain Gilmartin, officers acting on intelligence gathered from various sources executed a search warrant at McAulay’s residence on June 21 of the previous year.
The property, which he shares with his wife and daughter, was thoroughly searched, leading to the seizure of several electronic devices, including a laptop, two tablets, a desktop computer, a hard drive, and additional computer equipment.
During the investigation, authorities discovered a total of 7,330 indecent images categorized into different levels of severity.
Specifically, 135 images were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe form of indecency, while 202 images fell under Category B.
The majority, however, with 6,993 images, were classified as Category C, which still represents a grave violation involving child exploitation.
Further examination of the devices revealed that McAulay had conducted searches using various terms related to underage girls, indicating a premeditated interest in such material.
He admitted that between November 12, 2014, and June 21, 2017, he had taken or allowed the taking of indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children at a property in Liff.
This admission underscores the ongoing nature of his offending over a period of nearly three years.
During the court hearing, Sheriff Lorna Drummond decided to defer sentencing until May 24 to allow for the preparation of reports and a Tay Project Assessment, which evaluates the risk and needs of offenders.
McAulay was granted bail and was also placed on the sex offenders register, reflecting the seriousness of the charges against him and the potential risk he poses to the community.
